Manage Devices

Devices that meet your filter criteria appear in the list. The list displays the columns of data you select to appear. Drag and drop columns to appear in the sequence of your choice and click on a column header to sort data by that column (exceptions; Device Groups and Plugin Information).

  • images/download/attachments/163972664/gear-version-1-modificationdate-1693242536428-api-v2.png - Enables you to manage the devices that appear in the list. Each menu option is described in the following sections.

  • Click Add Device to access the New Device page where you can add one device at a time.

Devices added to SevOne NMS must have unique names. Devices in the deletion queue are considered in the check for unique device names.

  • Select the check box for each device to be marked for deletion. Click Move selected to Deletion Queue to move the selected device(s) to the queue for deletion. The devices in the deletion queue will be deleted after the number of days set in Administration > Cluster Manager > Cluster Settings tab > Devices subtab > section Device Deletion Queue Information, field Days to delay.

If Days to delay field is set to 0 days , then the device(s) in the deletion queue are marked for immediate deletion. This is to preserve the pre-existing behavior and allow the feature to be turned off.

Deletion of devices in the queue can impact data retention if the setting is high enough and/or enough devices are queued. For example, Days to delay field if set to 7 days is equal to 2% of 1 year. An emergency trim can kick in if caution is not used in balancing these settings with the number of new devices being added over time.

    • When adding devices to the queue for deletion, it does not require discovery and the changes take place immediately. However, a final discovery will be required to remove the devices and all its data as they expire in the queue.

    • When a device is in the queue for deletion, objects cannot be enabled. However, when the device is removed from the deletion queue, all objects can be edited.

  • Click Import CSV to access the CSV Importer where you can import multiple devices and candidates via a .csv file. The .csv file(s) must be encoded in UTF-8.

When importing a CSV file with devices, redis can cause some problems. To resolve this, login to SevOne NMS appliance via SSH, execute the following step, and try again.

    $ redis-cli flushdb

If field applianceName is empty, a peer is automatically chosen for the new device based on the option, Object or IPS (Indicators Per Second), chosen from Cluster Manager > Cluster Settings tab > Discovery subtab, field New Device Load Distribution.

  • Click Wrap Text to display all text for each device. Click Wrap Text again to display abbreviated text with ellipses when there is not enough space to display all text for a device.

Discovery Options

There are two concurrent discovery queues.

  • High Priority Queue - In the high priority discovery queue, the device that was most recently queued with the high priority is discovered first followed by the other devices in the high priority queue in the last in first out sequence.

  • Low Priority Queue - In the low priority discovery queue, the device that has been in the low priority queue the longest is discovered first in the first in first out sequence.

There are two discovery processes. You can track discovery progress on the Device Manager and on the Discovery Manager.

  • The Manual Discovery process runs every two minutes to discover objects on the devices you manually mark for discovery.

  • The Automatic Discovery process runs as you schedule it to occur from the Cluster Manager > Peer Settings tab to discover objects on all devices in SevOne NMS even if you do not mark the device for discovery. Automatic discovery runs in the low priority discovery queue.

images/download/attachments/163972664/gear-version-1-modificationdate-1693242536428-api-v2.png - Select the check box for each device to manage, click images/download/attachments/163972664/gear-version-1-modificationdate-1693242536428-api-v2.png , select Discovery, and then select one of the following options.

  • Select Discover to add the devices to the high discovery queue for the next discovery.

  • Select Cancel Discovery to cancel the discovery when a device is in a discovery queue.

  • Select Increase Discover Priority to add the devices to the high discovery queue or to increase the discovery priority from the low discovery queue to the high discovery queue.

  • Select Decrease Discover Priority to decrease the discovery priority from the high discovery queue to the low discovery queue.

  • Select Enable Manual Discovery to enable users to manually discover the objects on the devices.

  • Select Disable Manual Discovery to prevent users from manually discovering the objects on the devices. This blocks discovery of devices that are in maintenance.

  • Select Enable Automatic Discovery to enable the Automatic Discovery process to discover objects on the devices when the next automatic discovery occurs as you define on the Cluster Manager > Peer Settings tab.

  • Select Disable Automatic Discovery to prevent discovery of the devices when the Automatic Discovery process runs.

The drop-down list on the pop-up displays the device groups/device types to which one or more devices are members. Select the Only show groups that are common to all of the selected devices check box to display only the device groups/types to which all the devices are members.

  • Select Change Work Hours Group to display a pop-up that enables you to select a work hours group for the devices.
